I’ve been “finding my light” my entire life, and I find absolute joy in creating that experience for my clients on their special day. Emily Monus Events was born from a tiny spark that was cultivated when I planned my own wedding in 2013. I relished every minute of it – every detail that I planned, every checkbox that I ticked, and then making it all come together – and realized I had quite a knack for it. I also noticed there was a huge gap in the wedding market for LGBTQ+-identifying wedding coordinators.

In 2017, the universe gave me one of the biggest blessings of my life: I was laid off from my corporate job. It was then that I realized…that gap that I saw in the wedding industry? It was MY size. Also? I got back on stage again performing with a community theatre group. It’s been a blissful season of creativity ever since... I truly have never felt more like myself.

I am a proud member of the LGBTQ+ and Vegan community and delight in claiming my queer identity in my business. It is important to me that I create a space where non-traditional love can not only be celebrated but advocated for by working with inclusive and LGBTQIA+ identifying vendors and allies.

My portfolio of fun includes everything from weddings, milestone celebrations, corporate events, and non-profit galas.  I approach each and every event with the same excitement and enthusiasm, with the strongest desire to execute your vision perfectly.

The best decision we made about our wedding (next to our outfits) was hiring Emily. You don’t know what you don’t know, and as people who had never been married before, we really had no clue what we were doing. But Emily knew it all — and then some! As two creatives, we wanted to make all of the major aesthetic decisions ourselves but needed support with event coordination and management. Emily gave us checklists with tasks we wouldn’t have even known we needed to do, coordinated with our vendors, helped us find our make-up artist, mapped out and stage-managed the ceremony, and even got down and dirty decorating the space with the help of some of our friends. Some of the highest compliments were from our parents and other attendees as she worked her magic on the wedding day. My Dad was very nervous about introducing us when we entered the reception space for the first time as spouses and Emily was able to calm him down and wrote exactly what he needed to say on a note card. 

As a queer couple (I am a cisgender queer woman and AC is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns), it was important to us to have a coordinator who was also queer and understood how to make the process completely affirming, when the wedding industry is still so cishet normative. For all couples of all genders and sexualities, Emily will make sure you are uniquely heard, seen, and celebrated.

Emily is an incredible coordinator. My husband and I got ourselves into a DIY wedding without realizing what that meant. By the time we met Emily, we knew what we wanted to do, but had no idea how to fully execute it (outdoor, caterer, rentals, the whole thing). With about 2 months left before the wedding, Emily stepped in, guided us on how to use her online tools, and we got to work organizing our guests, our seating charts, our packing lists, our vendors, everything!

Emily is on top of it. She is clear, organized, and enthusiastic. Leading up to the event, she always reviewed our plans before meeting with us, coming up with questions that we had not thought about, and helping guide us where needed. On the day of the event, Emily went above and beyond with our guests and our vendors, handling the small big things that happen at events.
